Camouflage, Yes That Is How You Spell It!
I see pattern…
…even though it is camouflaged!
Hey yall! How is everyone doing this Tuesday morning? I have a full day planned today! Starting my day out with this camo post here on I See Pattern!
I recently noticed at Gap while unloading our Fall 1 shipment, that camouflage was repeatedly popping up! I was waiting for it, to be honest. Gap got some Camo printed skimmer skinnies last Spring and they sold out in a matter of seconds! So I started watching the trend and just knew it was going to be big for Fall. I feel like every Fall and sometimes Summer seasons, Camo plays some sort of a part. This pattern is another one of those prints that is always needed each season. As a Textile Designer, you will be challenged every season to come up with more camo options that are different and better than your last season collection! This year, I predict camo will be bigger than usual. Here are some camo prints I saw at UO and Gap that are already hitting the stores for Fall. The more we get into Fall/Winter, the more camo I think will appear. It’s already everywhere! Enjoy!
Love mixing the tribal pattern with the Camo print!
Three very different examples of Camouflage above and another style below!
Classic Camo on the inside of some VANS! Pop of pattern. Love that!
Fall leaf inspired camo print.
Love this little print. Camouflage can be inspired by hunting gear or influenced by the military. You can really go a couple different ways with the trend. It doesn’t have to just be boring ole Camo.
VANS picked up on the trend apparently! ;)
I cannot tell you how many different camo prints I had to come up with for socks when I worked with legwear fulltime. I love these UO Men’s socks bc of the color choices. You have your typical camouflage olive greens and tans, but then they added the turquoise-peacock color with the normal camo colors. And, of course, I love the heel toe cuff that is colored a lovely orangey-red. These men’s socks are a great example of a pair of hip yet classic camouflage printed socks.
Believe it or not, this back pack is not from Bass Pro. This is a great example of where the sport of hunting can be a huge influence in fashion. This was at UO! Love the fluorescent orange detailing, too!
There was SOOOOO much Camouflage at Gap that I missed my time to take pictures. It was a little overwhelming! My iPhone just couldn’t take it. haha I did take a couple that you will see below. But, basically, Gap took a couple different prints and colored them out in a variety of color combos (mainly a warm, a cold, and a traditional). Then they put the prints on everything from clothing to accessories! A lot of it is already on sale, tho. I think they over did it and introduced it too early. Like I mentioned, Gap is now doing a Fall 1 and Fall 2. I think had they waited to put the camo trend more in Fall 2, It would have done a little better. Altho, I have to say, I still really liked everything! It is just too much for most customers, I think. People will only buy one item, not all of it, ya know? Of course, the other day I did have a lady come in wearing the blue camo printed dress that is second on the top row in the image above. She came up to the counter wearing her indigo/navy camo printed dress and bought the traditional camo skinnies. haha She told me she can’t get enuf of the camo stuff! haha SO maybe there are some others, like me, that love and want it all! ;)
This is one of the three or so camo patterns that Gap has in stores right now. This is a blouse that is oh so cute! No maternity version tho. ;(
These were an update to the Spring skimmers that sold so well. I love the zipper add in update! These come in a peachy/pink colorway, as well.
If I weren’t preggo, I so would have had these mint Skinny Mini Skimmer Khakis! They are even mintier in person. I am not sick of mint, yet, but it is slowly dying. None the less, you gotta love a good camo print in a minty pastel colorway!
Love this dark indigo blue color option! And that jacket is too cute! Altho, gap, why did you do that jacket in all the colorways??? We will never sell them all. haha Love the blue and the traditional camo colored ones, tho!
Camouflage Pattern Book
One last thing before I wrap this post up!
I have this book of camo patterns with a cd of 100 royalty free eps files of camo pattern examples that designers are free to use in their artwork. While I was flipping thru the book for inspiration, I noticed a pattern that looked familiar. I had taken a pic of a shirt in UO that matches one of the patterns in my book! For the designers out there that work in house for a company, there are books like this that you can use on occasion. We had some at my last job, but I usually preferred to come up with my own art. But if I did use something like this, I always tweaked it a bit. Which is exactly what it looks like was done below. You can see the pattern in my book is much more detailed and tighter. The designer of the pattern for this shirt, took bits and pieces from the pattern in the book and made a much simpler pattern for the Tee. Pretty interesting. I see things like this in the industry a lot. Mostly bc I notice things more than the regular Joe bc I am a Textile Designer and it’s what I do and I love pattern! If you are in the industry or you just loooooove patterns like I do, you may see things like this a lot, too. Anyway, compare below! And a link to where you can find this book if you are interested in owning it is here.
Hope you enjoyed!
I see pattern…
…all over Forever 21!
There are SO MANY Tribal prints at Forever21 right now! OMG! The whole store is beautifully covered in these geometric styled prints. It is so fun to walk through. Forever21 will “forever” be stocking their racks with these types of patterns. Their “21 year old” customer must love this trend because every year, whether it be summer or fall or both, this store has a Tribal inspired trend somewhere on the floor. I must say, it never gets old for me either! I guess it’s Forever21’s FOREVER Trend! Enjoy!
DID YOU LOVE IT??? :)
I see pattern…
…at H&M, Pink VS, and Forever 21!
Was looking for fun cute summery icon patterns like in last couple posts, but found Tropic Shops instead! I wanna go to Hawaii now! Enjoy!
Had to add the flamingo. Only icon summery print I saw here.
Pink! at Victoria’s Secret
I see pattern on clothes and in fashion, but also on hangtags for the clothes! Again, I am obsessed with flamingo art right now, so of course my eyes went to this hangtag immediately! How cute is the flamingo/palmtree pattern below?
Saw lots of the Tribal stuff at these stores, as well. Will be sharing that next post!
Buff Ex Vine Videos
I see pattern…
…at Buffalo Exchange!
YES, I sold my clothes again! haha Made 80 bux too! Woot Woot! While there, instead of shopping [bc my husband would kill me], I made a pattern VINE vid! So fun! My phone died or I would have made more! Enjoy! And follow me on Vine if ya wanna. :) @iseepattern is my name, of course! haha
Urban Outfitters Summertime Prints
I see pattern…
…at Urban Outfitters.
Hey everyone! Its finally summer around here. It has been a true Texas summer in Dallas lately- 100 degree temperatures and random storms here and there. As much as I hate the extreme heat, I love to pattern shop during the summer season. I was in Urban Outfitters the other day and found these icon driven patterns that scream summertime! I LOOOOOVe anything with a flamingo and/or sunglasses on it! hehe I have been thinking of summertime icons and I just cant get enough inspiration from all the prints out there right now. Enjoy what I saw at UO! Some more summertime patterns soon!
Reminds me of Saved by the Bell! I loved that show! But, also, this print reminds me of a California summer! Katie Perry would love this print, dont you think? ;)
I have been more drawn to summer icons lately, but I couldnt ignore the usual floral driven tropical prints that will always be in stores during the summer season. And how cool, that I found one of these patterns on some nail wraps. Nail art is such a fun trend to follow and I am so glad nail wraps were invented. LOVE them! In fact, I may have to go back to Urban and pick these up! So dang cute! Pattern is really everywhere these days! Smiley face! hehe
Great stripe, dont you think! Great Beach Bag, as well!
I moseyed on over to Men’s at UO. I forget to cover men’s bc it is just not as fun sometimes as Women’s is. But UO always delivers. The Menwear patterns I saw were obviously a little different from the patterns women wear. Hawaiian Shirt inspired prints and Fourth of July Stars and Stripes are always a safe bet for men during summertime. These were some of the belts. Accessories like belts and socks (see pic below) are a great way for men to add pattern to their outfits. I see pattern everywhere, but really it just on everything these days. haha
I love socks, obviously, bc I worked with socks for 5 years. I will forever pay attention to socks. The men’s socks are so much cooler than the women’s socks at Urban Outfitters. They always have been as long as I have paid attention. Love this bearded pirate and the hungry shark! So hilarious!
Okay, this last pattern, I found on a Men’s Tee at Urban. I added it to this post bc it sooooo reminds me of the Strip in Panama City Beach, Florida. I know now, Panama isnt really a place college kids go for Spring Break anymore, but back in my day, we went a few times. And this was just too funny to me to not add. :) Altho, girls, if your beau is wearing this shirt (even if it is to the beach), you may wanna think twice before considering him boyfriend material! Just date his friend who is not wearing this shirt! haha
I hope you enjoyed this collection of summertime prints from UO. More to come from other stores thru out the SUMMER! Now go to the pool and enjoy summer! Dont forget your shades! B-)
Buffalo Exchange Spring 2013 Trends Part 2
I see pattern…
…at Buff Exchange on Greenville in Dallas!
Continuing my Spring 2013 Pattern Trend finds from Buffalo Exchange!
These are what I call “Fade Out” Patterns because they all sort of fade out in some way. I’m loving the movement that is created with this group of patterns!
And this last one is just for fun and not really part of a reoccurring trend. Altho, tropical themed patterns are always relevant for Spring/Summer Seasons. I just thought this one was quirky and entertaining and wanted to add it to the blog!
Gap Pattern LOVE
I see pattern…
…at my fave store and part-time employer, GAP!
Gap, I love ya! This Spring 2013 collection is filled with PATTERN!!! My eyes are so happy! And, of course, I already own most of what you will see below! Trouble! :)
Her Name Is Rose
I see pattern…
…in Urban Outfitters!
Loving the dark floral patterns I’m seeing. Very Goth but still romantic and girly! Enjoy.
Rosie Denim!!?! I totally want these, but I am still trying to get my husband used to colored jeans! haha too cute tho!
I see pattern…
at Buffalo Exchange!
So, I finally found the time to go to Buffalo Exchange and sell some of my clothes [only so I can buy more clothes, of course]. Haha, but aside the selling ($$$$$) and possible buying [hehe], I always love looking at patterns there. Buffalo Exchange only buys things that are trending and they go in the store immediately. Its a good source to scope out every once in a while to keep up to date with prints. PLUS they have the most interesting patterns and I always get inspired by their funky fashions!

3 More Lovely Printsourcers
I see pattern…
…at PrintsourceNY Part 2!
Hi Hi Hi,
I have been a teeny tiny bit busy this week. My goal was to be finished posting my Printsource Pics by now, buuuut that didnt go according to plan. Oh well! Here are 3 more pattern filled booths I was able to take pictures of at Printsource. Enjoy! :)
Mark Cesarik Art/Design
How cute is that dog print??
This is Mark. He has a penguin in his logo!
As I chatted with Mark for a little while as I photographed his booth, we got to talking about the design and textile world and other random life things.
Like, when mentioning I liked his logo, he told me he thought about getting a tattoo of it on his back. Which I think would be awesome, but his friends talked him out of it due to the fact that they couldnt decide if getting a permanent tattoo of one’s business logo was too cheesy. But I think, why not?! At least at the beach he’d always be advertising his business! :) What do yall think? hehe
While talking, I also learned that, Mark does a lot of fabric printing. Him and his wife started a shop on Spoonflower called Sewbettie. Also, he is a Designer for Free Spirit Fabrics, as well. Check out his blog for all the details on his fabrics. And, to check out more of his work, you can go to his website at markces.com.
Anywho, Mark was a cool pattern friend to meet. I really enjoyed looking thru his prints and talking with him!
Next up, Avi Iny Designs from Isreal.
Funny little story here… I was trying to get a quick picture session in with a booth before I had a trend seminar to attend. When I introduced myself to this Designer, his assistant said she just tweeted me! I had been tweeting about Printsource while I was there and she saw and invited me to come meet them. I didnt know at the time. I guess I was just supposed to meet them. haha
Avi Iny Designs mainly deals with women’s and men’s wear, lingerie, sleepwear, and swimwear as you can see from my pictures of their booth walls. They didnt want me taking close ups of their patterns but I got to shoot the patterned figures that decorated their booth. So that works for meeee! :)
Lastly, I met Antoinette et Freddy, a Textile Deisgn studio from Paris, France. Again, I was limited in what I could take pictures of. They said no closeups and I said no problem. :) Antoinette et Freddy has been exhibiting at Printsource for years. They had some great stuff!
I hope you enjoyed these Printsourcers! One more post on my Printsource experience coming up soon! Stay tuned!
It’s called the Paisley Shop
I see paisley patterns…
…at TOPSHOP in New York!
For those of you who do not know, I took a trip to NYC last week to walk Printsource! The show was amazing and so was New York! I will be posting on the show later, but first I wanted to share all the Paisley I saw in while browsing my fave store, TOPSHOP. I’m thinking these funky yet sophisticated prints are going to be very popular this Fall 2012! Especially on jeans! We’ll see! Take a look at some of my favorites!
I spent an hour in TOPSHOP and only could buy one thing. I bought one bottle of nail polish bc I just adore the polka dotted graphics on TOPSHOP’s makeup line. I’m a sucker for black and white graphics!
Stay tuned for Printsource coverage! YAY!
I see fruity patterns…
The fruity trend is in full affect! YAY, SUMMERTIME! Fruit for all. The fun icon is on so many different fashion pieces this season. Not only am I seeing fruit popping up in stores, I have personally been running into all things fruit with everything I have been doing lately. One of the latest projects I have been working on at my nine to fiver incorporated some fruit icons on some Girls Low Cut Socks. I wish I could share but they are for an important client of ours. Top Secret Sock stuff, ya know! haha Anyway, I do have to pat myself on the back, tho. They are so cute you’ll want to eat ‘em! :) Speaking of eating, I am trying to loose a couple pounds. So I have been, unfortunately, calorie counting! Oh so hard! There isnt a lot of calories in FRUIT! So guess what I have been snacking on latley? You guessed it - Fruit. I have also been working on a fruitastic lil pattern. I have even been pinning things with fruit in them! You know the one where you freeze strawberries and lemons in ice to serve in drinks at a party! How cute is that!!?!?!?! Anyway, here are some quick pics I took of a collection of fruit patterns that I saw at Target the other day. Enjoy and eat some fruit! Mmmm…
PS- Fruit is a strange word and I think I said it a bazillion times in this post! Im such a fruit! haha
I see pattern…
…while cleaning out my files on my laptop.
This pattern was designed by yours truly. I obviously remember the pattern, and in fact it is still in my portfolio, but what I dont remember doing is the design with the pattern on the vector models below. For some reason I only have the jpgs to… Anyway, I thought this was interesting and wanted to share! Have a good rest of your weekend!
PS- I finally started a FACEBOOK Page for I See Pattern!!! Please check it out at www.facebook.com/iseepattern and LIKE it so I can feel cool! hehe THX!!!
