New Orleans Home Tour Photo Diary 2

New Orleans Home Tour Photo Diary 1

I see pattern…

…in historic homes in New Orleans on carpet, rugs, furniture, etc

My husband and I spent our Christmas break in New Orleans with his side of our family. We had a lovely holiday! While in the great city of New Orleans, I got to take a tour of old homes in the Quarter with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and Grandma-in-law.  It was a nice girls day out and we saw some really beautiful Historical homes.  While touring, of course I saw tons of pattern.  Aaaaaand I got a brand new fancy shmancy camera from my amazing hubby!  A Canon EOS Rebel T3i to be exact!  So I was trying that bad boy out! I am splitting these pictures up into three posts bc there is so many.  Enjoy group 1!

Hey thats me in the mirror reflection with my new camera! :)  By the way, pretty awesome piece of furniture, right?  I would totally put makeup on everyday if I had this to sit down at! Okay, no I wouldnt, buuuuut it is a great piece…

Hope you enjoyed this first set of patterns from the homes I visited. I wish I remembered the addresses of each home we saw.  The tour is called, Creole Christmas Tour, and I believe it is put on each year by Friends of the Cabildo.  Please correct me if I am wrong on this.  Visit their website here for more info.  More great interior patterns from these homes to come!

XOXO,

Whitney

Julia Rothman’s NEW Pattern Collection

Taking a break from my cruise photos to share with you one of my favorite Surface Designer’s newest pattern designs.  Julia Rothman is one of the first Pattern Designers that I started to follow and study.  She hand-draws everything and scans her lovely doodles in to create beautifully detailed patterns.  She is exceedingly successful with clients under her belt like Hygge and West, Hello! Lucky, Land of Nod and many many more.  Here are some of my favorites from her newest pattern designs!  These are not yet on her website, but you can preview all of her newbies here.

PS- Julia Rothman is ALSO a full time Illustrator for a Design company called ALSO.  They have a pretty sweet animated website.  So, check that out!  There is some great website design, print work and animation here.

Julia Rothman’s NEW Pattern Collection

in the pottery… Barbados Pottery Shop

Hey guys,

I totally didn’t get the name of this little shop that was near where our ship ported in Barbados.  And I wish I could have taken more pictures, but we were in a hurry and I’m pretty sure the store manager wouldn’t have wanted me taking pictures anyway.  :)  So i got what i could.  The first photo here is a picture of the inside of a hand made and hand painted bowl.  This store had sooo many beautifully designed pottery pieces and lots of great patterns.  You can get an idea of them in the second photo.  This is a photo of the wall outside of the store.  U can see examples of all the different pieces that this store carried.  I thought it was a great way to represent what was sold in the store.  It’s kinda like their portfolio in a way.  This vibrantly colored wall certainly caught my eye and pulled me into the store even for the two seconds I had. :)

in Nature… Beach in Barbados

My fiance and I decided to make it a beach day when our cruise ship stopped in Barbados.  We went to a secluded beach resort that was absolutely beautiful!  Of course, I saw pattern in some of the things that were around the beach.  To see more photos of my time in Barbados, check out my other blog at www.wbwhitneybarnes.blogspot.com.

in the fabric… Dominica

I came across these patterns in Dominica while on my vacation.  I totally got in trouble when I took these shots.  Oops!  The patterns are from tablecloths that were on the booths where the locals sold necklaces and handmade trinkets and such to the tourists.  When one of the Dominican women saw me snapping shots of her booth, she, with a scoul of concern on her face, asked me, “What are you doing?!?”  It all worked out in the end.  She just wanted me to ask her permission first.  :)  None the less, here are the shots I got.  These patterns are very African influenced.  I just think they are beautiful and unique.  Enjoy!
